A Simple Diwali Decorating Checklist for Your Home
Getting your home ready for Diwali can start with three small spaces: the doorway, a backdrop and a table. You do not need to decorate every room. Choose a few pieces you love, check how they fit and leave enough time to put them up without rushing.
1. Measure before choosing your decorations
Measure the width of your doorway or window, then the drop available for hanging decorations. Check that the door can still open freely. For a table or rangoli display, measure the usable surface after leaving space for serving dishes and everyday essentials.
A product's full length and the width it fits are different measurements. A long garland can drape around a doorway, while a toran sits across the top. Read the measurements and included pieces rather than judging the size from a styled photo.
2. Give the doorway one clear focal point
Start with a toran or door hanging that suits your space. Keep the surrounding decorations simple so its colors and details stand out. If you are adding side hangings, check whether they come with the top toran or need to be ordered separately.
Our Kalash toran with side hangings is ideal for a 3-foot doorway or window. Mounting supplies are not included, so plan suitable hooks or supports for your surface before decorating.
3. Plan the garland layout before opening the pack
Use floral garlands to frame a window, add color behind a serving table or create a simple photo corner. Decide whether you want vertical strings or a draped arrangement, then check the number of strings in the pack.
The orange and yellow marigold garland pack includes 5 strings, each 4.5 feet long. For a vertical backdrop, mark five hanging points with the spacing you prefer. Spread and fluff the artificial flowers gently before arranging the strings, and keep them clear of candles and other heat sources.
4. Keep the table display easy to enjoy
Choose a small grouping of decorative pieces rather than covering the whole table. A rangoli set can be a focal point, with room around it for people to move and serve food. Check the listing for the exact number of pieces and diyas. Flowers shown in styled rangoli photos are not included.
Our clay diyas with wax have 4-piece and 8-piece pack options. Choose the pack size in the product options before adding it to your cart. If you light diyas, use a stable, heat-resistant surface, keep them away from hanging decor and never leave a flame unattended.
5. Do a quick setup check
- Confirm the measurements, pack quantity and included contents.
- Have mounting supplies ready for your walls, doors or windows.
- Keep doorways and walking paths clear.
- Check that decorations stay away from flames and heat.
- Allow time for delivery and a relaxed setup before guests arrive.
You can bring the same colors through the doorway, backdrop and table without repeating every decoration. Start with the space you most want to enjoy, then add another detail if the room needs it.
