How to Store Torans, Garlands and Rangoli Between Celebrations
The nicest part of reusable decorations is bringing them out again for another celebration. A little time spent packing away a toran, untangling garlands and keeping a rangoli set together can make the next setup much easier.
Whether you are decorating for Diwali, a wedding gathering or a housewarming, try this simple packing routine. Follow any care instructions supplied with your particular item first.
Take a photo before you take anything down
Photograph the full arrangement, then take a closer picture of the hanging points and the pieces you used. Save the photos in an album with a useful name, such as โDiwali doorwayโ or โWedding backdrop.โ Next time, you will have a starting point instead of trying to remember how everything fitted together.
Keep a note of the doorway width, the number of strings and any mounting supplies you added yourself. A photo is useful inspiration, but measurements make the arrangement easier to repeat.
Pack torans without folding through the details
Take a door toran or hanging down gently, supporting the decoration rather than pulling on tassels, beads or small ornaments. Lay it out and check for loose parts before putting it away.
Use a box long enough to avoid a sharp fold through an embroidered panel or decorative motif. Add a soft, clean layer between pieces so hanging details do not catch on each other. Keep a matching top toran and side hangings in the same labelled box, with small parts in a separate pouch.
Give each garland its own space
Before storing artificial flower garlands, separate the strings and make sure they are clean and dry. Arrange them in loose loops with enough room around the flowers. Avoid pressing a heavy item on top of them.
Label the pack with its color, string count and individual length. This helps when several similar packs share a storage box. If you used only part of a pack, note how many strings remain together rather than relying on the original pack quantity.
Keep bead strands from tangling
Lay beaded hangings out one strand at a time. Use separate sleeves or soft dividers to keep them apart, and avoid making tight knots in the hanging thread. A shallow box lets you see the contents without pulling everything out.
Store the hooks or fixings you used in a labelled pouch nearby. Keep them separate from delicate decorative surfaces so they do not snag the pieces.
Keep a rangoli arrangement together
For a reusable decorative rangoli set, count the pieces and pack them in individual compartments or with soft dividers. Include a photo of your preferred layout. Store any separate diyas according to their own care instructions rather than squeezing them between decorative pieces.
If you added flowers or other styling props yourself, remove those before packing. They are separate from the reusable arrangement.
Label for the next celebration
- Write the contents and quantity on the outside of each box.
- Keep a short note of any repair or replacement needed.
- Choose a dry indoor storage spot away from direct sunlight and heavy items.
- Check the contents before your next event, leaving time to plan the setup.
You do not need a complicated storage system. A few labelled boxes and photos can help you enjoy the decorations you already have, then choose any extra Diwali finishing touches with a clearer idea of what you need.
